The Siouxland Master Chorale (SMC) has been a part of the Siouxland musical community for over 60 years. Composed of professional musicians and music enthusiasts from the tri-state area of Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota, SMC is committed to the performance of great choral music. Conductor Gene Wagner has led the ensemble since 2003.
Recent SMC performances include Handel's Messiah and Verdi's Requiem, both performed with the Sioux City Symphony under the baton of Xian Zhang in concert at the Orpheum Theater located in Sioux City, Iowa. In addition, the Siouxland Master Chorale has performed with the Sioux City Municipal Band, and the Siouxland All-America Concert Band. A special concert celebrating the Lewis and Clark Expedition was performed in the fall of 2004.
Siouxland Master Chorale has toured extensively throughout Siouxland and the Midwest, and in 2006, they performed at the Annual Rose Festival in Portland, Oregon as well as area churches. In 2000, they served as goodwill ambassadors for the Siouxland community to five cities in Japan, including Yamanashi City, a sister city to Sioux City.
Over the years, hundreds of talented singers have contributed to the rich heritage of the Siouxland Master Chorale. One of the traditions of the Chorale has been to foster a strong relationship with the choral programs of Morningside College, Briar Cliff University, local churches and schools. SMC has fostered a strong relationship with choral programs of area colleges, including Morningside College and Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa, and with local churches and schools.
With its history firmly woven into the rich fabric of the Siouxland arts community, the Siouxland Master Chorale continues to strive for outstanding choral performances for our audiences.
